Unhappy 2 Illinois players injured in crash

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Two Illinois basketball players were injured when their car went off the road and slammed into a tree.

Brian Carlwell was at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana Tuesday in serious condition with a severe concussion, sports information director Kent Brown said. Jamar Smith was treated at the hospital for a concussion and released.

Illinois coach Bruce Weber spent the night in the hospital with Carlwell, a 6-foot-11 freshman center.

My favorite college basketball team is Illinois, this is such a shame. Hopefully they have a full recovery both of them. This just shows you how tight of a program we are, and how much we care about our players having coach come.

Get well guys

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois basketball player Jamar Smith will miss the rest of the season after injuring himself in a traffic accident.

"It has been mutually agreed upon between myself and Jamar Smith and his family, that he sit out the remainder of this season so that he can focus all of his attention on the physical, emotional, academic and other related issues he will face in the coming weeks," coach Bruce Weber said Friday on the athletic department's Web site.

But his passenger, freshman center Brian Carlwell was hospitalized with a more severe concussion. Carlwell was released from Carle Foundation Hospital on Friday afternoon, and plans to attend the Illini's game against Northwestern on Sunday.

Thank goodness Carwell is o.k., he had me worried. Too bad Smith will be out the season, we could have really used him....
