Hopefully this is as dlb says more about UNC than the ACC v PAC-10...if the committee looks at a win like that and thinks that it shows league wide dominance rather than a statement about the two teams that PAC-10 could get only 4 or 5 slots, rather than the 6 and even 7 that some of the Bracketologists have been talking about lately.

To be fair, Arizona did not play their best. They went 1-23 behind the arc. They usually score 3-ptrs at better than a 37% clip.
So, let's say the 'Heels defense had held them to a rather meagre 30% on treys. 23 * .3 = 6.9; meaning that they'd have scored 21 points on treys, rather than 3. Add 18 points to their score and you have a 10 point Carolina win. Still impressive, but by no means dominant. Had 'Zona scored 3s at their usual rate, this would have been a very close game: 23 *.37 = 8.51; and since 9 * 3 = 27, you add 24 points to the 'Cats column to get only a 4-point Carolina win. It will be wonderful if every team does us the favor of missing more than 95% of their 3-pointers, but I don't think that will happen often. I don't even think it will happen again this year. In fact, I really don't want to see Arizona come Tourney time. These guys are better than they demonstrated last Saturday; I have no desire to see them prove it. |
