Closer is where the Indians need to look to make a change. Have to feel bad for C.C. also. He should be leading the league in wins but the Indians won't support him.
If not for Vic, Grady and starting pitching the Indians would be fighting for 3rd place. |

i think the team needs to go back to the basics, and focus on playing "smart" baseball. It's important that the players don't get frustrated about their individual stat lines looking good. The only stat that matters is the team winning percentage.

Could be worse, could be Rick White.

Wedge has to trust someone else or else the bullpen is going to be the death of this team in the post season.
Having said that I really am not entirely sure what the issue is with Borowski. I mean I want the Indians to get a long term solution at closer (could be Perez), but I guess its like the Wickman issue. When Wickman was here everyone complained that he wasn't a 1-2-3 closer (& its interesting all of the talk about wanting Wickman back - never was going to happen since he left Atlanta because supposedly he didn't want to pitch in a non save situation) and now the same old arguments are being recycled with Borowski's name replacing Wickman's. |

I don't think that many wanted Wickman back. I agree that the Indians need to find a long term solution though. They need to sign a proven closer, which I doubt they do or groom someone like Perez as the long term solution.
One has to figure that we will have 3-2 or even 2-1 games going into the 9th and man, that's going to be hard to watch. |

Keep in mind there are more Borowski's out there then "proven" or "lights out closers" - saying the Indians need to sign one is infinitely more realistic then actually doing it. Until they pinpoint a successor - I wouldn't mind seeing Borowski back next season.

Also keep in mind you're responding over a month after the original post, back when the Tigers were still in contention and Borowski was coming off a horrid appearance vs. the Tigers followed by a blown save against the Devil Rays. Borowski has settled down a lot in the past month, dropping his ERA from 5.51 to 5.04 and picking up 8 saves while blowing only 1.
Despite his high ERA, Borowski has continued to get the job done more often than not, and I think the fans in Cleveland are finally starting to accept him as the closer. Last edited by unreal654; 09-21-2007 at 05:17 PM. |
