I made the post on my Indians site.
The official link is here at MLB The Official Site of Major League Baseball: News: Major League Baseball News Glad to see him back..... Interesting....Leadoff? I dont see Grady losing CF, I do want to see how these two work together with Lofton in LF or RF.

like i said before, this deal seemed the most likely to happen because the Indians didn't have to give up a whole lot to get Lofton. I like the deal because Lofton gives us the flexibility to move Sizemore down in the order and also adds much needed speed to the lineup. Now the Indians can shift their focus to the bullpen. We'll see if they can add a solid reliever to help out the pen.
I think the lineup should look like this now... Lofton LF Sizemore CF Vic C Hafner DH Garko 1B Peralta SS Blake 3B F. Gutierrez RF Barfield 2B Bench: T. Nixon J. Michaels M. Rouse K. Shoppach Francisco will probably be moved to AAA. |

Me personally, I see several good things to come from it...First , I wanted to say I agree with this from unreal....
like i said before, this deal seemed the most likely to happen because the Indians didn't have to give up a whole lot to get Lofton. I think Kenny will be a good 'mentor' for our young outfielders....I'd like to see Franky get some time with him.....I'd also like to see if he can influence some of these guys on the bases.... Kenny is mentioning on the News, "Who knows, I might end up finishing my career here" I certainly don't have a problem with it....Especially if it helps us from acquiring more Nixons or Dellucci's....

I'm upset with this move for two reasons
1-it sets up the Indians to get the Wild Card over my Mariners 2-Shin Soo Choo is even less likey to get time in the Majors.

Well, you can really blame the offseason signing of Delucci and Nixon for Choo's absense. I like Choo and think he will be a regular someday, but apparently the Indians didn't feel that he was ready yet. Ben Francisco and Franklin Gutierrez have also played well. Grady forces Franklin over to Choo's position in right field.

nice post unreal !
Your correct, IMO.....Nixon and Dellucci pretty well blocked Choo......and then there's Blake too, if Marte should happen to tear it up again in the minors.... Nice to see the Front Office grab a player, Lofton, that the FANS actually like and know.... Thats a first, isn't it? Shap made a statement after the signing....."This is the first move I made fans cheered"....or something to that effect.... Jeez......I hope he's not wondering why.....! Hey, maybe it relates to attendance also Shap!

Yep. I wasn't thrilled with either signing. Choo likely is still out without Delucci and Nixon but I never thought either was needed all that badly. I understand you can only go with so many unproven guys......... Oh well.....Lofton has certainly been welcomed back by the fans. |

Please:
1) Anyone who thinks Lofton is a RF obviously is living under a cloud of delusion. Lofton didn't have a strong arm the first two times in Cleveland. Logic dictates that his arm strength has lessened. 2) You do not move Sizemore from leadoff for anyone unless its a long term solution (ie Trevor Crowe or someone like that). Lofton just isn't it. 3) In the long run this trade is going to hurt the Indians. So I hope Lofton helps now. |

Lofton has only played left. His arm isn't as weak as some make it out to be either.
Grady is one of the few who is hitting on a consistant basis. WIth that being the case, it would be nice to have someone on base in front of him but I don't think many have much of a problem how the line-up is made up. I don't think this makes for any long term implications. |

Acrank....I think most agree with you, but I consider Lofton more of an experiment than anything else. And I'd certainly rather see him play before Dellucci or Nixon....
I think Grady at this point probably can make any spot in the lineup better than it is. It would be nice to see him in the 3rd spot, with a fast runner ahead of him.... I get the feeling Grady isn't 'comfortable' leading off, Even though he handles it well enough. Lofton is buying Crowe some time....I dont think he's quite ready yet..... And as much as you think the Lofton deal wasn't a good one, I can think of 2 that are worse......

All teams have bad deals. While this is a good short term deal for the Indians, max Ramirez could very well make up for the Travis Hafner deal.
Oh and actually you can blame Choo for Choo's absense. Nixon doesn't get signed if the Indians felt Choo was ready to assume the job fulltime. |

That's basically what i said regarding Choo's absense. I think most people would put the fault on the organization for signing Nixon who has to turned out to be a dud thus far. It's quite obvious the Indians made a mistake.
Also, you can keep Max Ramirez. The Indians didn't need a catcher with Shoppach backing up Victor. I'm really not going to feel bad about this trade even is Max turns into a good player. ANYTHING is better than what Nixon/Delucci were giving us. Lofton brings much needed speed and experience to a young and slow lineup. Last edited by unreal654; 08-13-2007 at 11:49 PM. |
