An Indians club that has made a habit out of locking up members of its core to long-term contracts showed that it views Wedge as a valuable piece of the puzzle on Monday by signing the manager to a three-year contract extension through 2010. The deal does not include any options.
Surprised? As tight as Wedgie and Shapiro are, you shouldn't have been. Wedgie has his fair share of bashers. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Especially coming off a crap season like last season.

I really don't know how I feel. I often times feel people perform better under pressure. Alot less pressure on Wedge now. Well, maybe alot is bit of a stretch.
The difference this year of course is winning late as opposed to losing late like last year. As long as they are winning, I'm far less concerned over the rest. |

If Wedge doesn't make the playoffs this year, that's 5 years without a playoff apperance. Two of those years (2003/2004) hardly count because the Indians were rebuilding. The Indians nearly made the playoffs in 2005, a hiccup in 2006 (although the runs vs. runs against would tell a different story, and a good first half in 2007. I don't think it's a bad extension, but they could have just as well done it in the offseason. I'd like to see how Cleveland finishes down the stretch this year before I give the manager an extension.

I agree unreal....the signing could have waited.....but as I eluded to, I think Shapiro had a chance to sign his buddy when everything was going right and took it....
