Default Ken Griffey Jr - Rightfielder?

ESPN.com - MLB/SPRING2007 - If Griffey plays in opener, he'll start in right field

Quote:
Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, said his client had known the Reds' plans.

"Junior understands the team tells us where he should play, and that's the way it should be," Goldberg said.
Hopefully this move can keep Griffey healthy for a more than 400 ABs. If so Griffey could have a great season and help remind us all why The Kid was the most popular player in the game even though he played in a backwater of Seattle

I have a mixed feelings about this move-albeit good ones. I think that first
and foremost, it is a good move in order to help keep Jr. healthy- he won't
have a lot of running to do.

2- It gets Freel in the lineup. He is a hustler, and may be a good spark plug
for the leading off-plus his speed along with Phillips and Gonzalez, and hopefully what appears to be Dunn's improved bat will help the Reds score
more runs.

3- This could be softening the blow and opening the way for Josh
Hamilton to take over CF and get a lot of PT- splitting with Freel.

The Official Site of The Cincinnati Reds: News: Cincinnati Reds News

Quote:
"I knew a month ago," said Griffey, a 12-time All-Star with 563 career home runs. "It didn't really matter how I felt about it. That's really not important. I'm there, and I have to make the best of it.

"It's really not that big of a deal. You guys [in the media] are making more out of it than it is. ... You never know. I may play [center field] again."
Hamilton seems to be a lock for the fourth OF with this move, though Josh has played RF in his most recent ST game.

Hamilton does not have a platoon advantage over Griffey.

I question the Reds on why this move wasn't made a couple of years ago. A CF has to cover way too much ground for someone who was a history of bad legs.

Honestly, the biggest reason this move is a good idea, is because the Reds continually put someone in Right Field that doesn't have HALF the arm that Griffey does. Their defense improves an incredible amount, as he still has more range than your average RF as well.

I agree Hellwig...This really should have been done at least 3 or 4 years ago.
