Erstad helps White Sox edge Tigers

Erstad delivers tie-breaking RBI single in the seventh

Uribe hit a solo home run

Quote:
DETROIT -- White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has been waiting for his club's bats to heat up. Friday's conditions against the Tigers couldn't have been better for Chicago. And it didn't disappoint.

Juan Uribe and Tadahito Iguchi both hit home runs, and Darin Erstad hit a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning for the White Sox in a 5-4 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park.

The Sox entered the game ranked 13th in the American League with a .219 batting average. The slow start was a product of cold weather and stellar opposing pitching. Chicago dealt with neither against Detroit.

Great first win for us, Danks always puts us in posistion to win, which is great. He's not that fancy, but gets the job done most of the time.

I am predicting we win the game with Contreas on the mound, but we will lose the second game against Verlander. Should be a good series between the AL Central's two dominating teams.....

White Sox win fourth straight in extras

Joe Crede hits a game-tying single in the eighth inning against the Tigers on Saturday.

Dye blasts go-ahead double in 10th inning against Tigers.

Quote:
DETROIT -- With the way the White Sox bullpen has pitched to start the season, who could blame manager Ozzie Guillen for simply looking to tie the score late in the game?

His relievers were nearly perfect yet again. Guillen used five of them Saturday, and they combined to allow just one hit over three innings in a 7-5 win in 10 innings over the Tigers at Comerica Park.

After Juan Uribe led off the seventh with a single, Guillen called for a sacrifice bunt with his White Sox behind, 5-4. The bunt was a success, but the strategy wasn't. Uribe was left stranded on second base.

Well we won yersterday, but the wins have been too close for my comfort....but hey at least we are winning!

The offense is kind of sluggish at the beginning of the game I noticed this season, but usually heats up as the game progresses.

Right now today's game is another close one, 3-3.....We will see what happens

Bullpen unable to answer

"It's a loss -- it just [stinks] the way it happened," A.J. Pierzynski said. "We had chances to add on [runs], and we didn't. Then we had chances to score in extra innings, and we didn't."

Quote:
DETROIT -- Generally, when a team wins two of three games in the home stadium of the defending league champions, it can walk away satisfied.

But no one for the White Sox seemed pleased after the Sunday afternoon game at Comerica Park.

That's because the White Sox were one out away from a series sweep and their fifth straight win. But Marcus Thames hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 5 with two outs in the ninth, and Placido Polanco drove in the game-winning run in the 12th for a 6-5 Tigers win.
