Cubs' early lead wiped out by late rally

Hill tosses seven strong innings

Wuertz yields decisive homer

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- The Cubs scored early, had their starting pitcher cruising and had plenty of chances to add runs Monday night.

Everything seemed to be in place for the Cubs' fourth consecutive victory. But somehow, it didn't happen.

Jason Bay's 100th home run as a Pirate in the bottom of the eighth, off Michael Wuertz, was the winning hit as Pittsburgh came from behind to beat the Cubs, 3-2.

Cubs muscle up to douse Pirates

Soriano, Jones and Floyd homer in rain-suspended win

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- Better late than never.

The Cubs needed more than 18 hours to do it, but they finished off a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-6, early Wednesday afternoon in a contest that had been suspended due to rain the night before.

There was a 30-minute break after completion of that game and the regularly scheduled series finale between the two teams.

Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored, Jacque Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs and a homer, Cliff Floyd homered and Derrek Lee had four hits in the come-from-behind victory, the Cubs' fourth in their past five games.

Marquis wins fourth straight in finale

Soriano, Lee and Theriot swing hot bats as Cubs win series

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- The Cubs are getting everything they could have asked for -- and more -- out of offseason free-agent signee Jason Marquis.

The veteran right-hander won his fourth start in a row with another strong outing in a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon.

"He's been lights-out for us," first baseman Derrek Lee said. "He's pitched pretty much that way every start. Outside of the home run, they didn't get much of anything off him. He threw strikes, worked both sides of the plate -- he was good today."

What can I say about Jason Marquis except for WOW!- He was a great addition to the team and he is proving his worth.

Good to see both Soriano and Lee are starting to heat up, hopefully its a good sign for us in the future.

We won 5 of the last 6- Boo yeah grandma
