CHICAGO -- This was not the Major League debut Rocky Cherry will remember, especially the postgame verbal shouting match between Cubs manager Lou Piniella, coach Gerald Perry and the umpires.

Prince Fielder hit his second home run of the game with one out in the 12th inning Monday night off Cherry, who was called up from Triple-A Iowa earlier in the day, to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

It was the Cubs' third extra-inning game in the last seven, and second in a row. They lost, 12-9, in 10 innings to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

Bats unable to support Hill in defeat

CHICAGO -- Rich Hill threw 108 pitches Tuesday night. He'd like to have about four of them back.

Hill gave up more runs on one swing by Prince Fielder than he had in 25 previous innings when the Milwaukee slugger hit a two-run homer to power the Brewers to a 4-1 victory over the Cubs. Kevin Mench added a solo shot off Hill, who suffered his first loss in four starts.

"Look, the guy's human," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said of Hill, who entered the game leading the National League with a 0.41 ERA. "He wasn't as sharp as he's been. He still kept us in the ballgame."

Cubs back Lilly in big way vs. Brewers

Four drive in two runs apiece to help lefty earn first home win
Lilly (2-2) enjoyed it.

The Cubs had scored four runs in Lilly's last three starts

CHICAGO -- Cliff Floyd will finally be able to get some sleep Wednesday night. So will his Cubs teammates.

Before Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Floyd was saying the team's poor start was keeping him awake.

"I need sleep," Floyd said. "And I want to win so bad, it's amazing."

He'll have sweet dreams. Floyd, Ryan Theriot, Michael Barrett and Derrek Lee each drove in two runs to help the Cubs beat the Brewers, 9-3. Ted Lilly was the benefactor, getting his first home win in four starts at Wrigley Field.

Tough series though you must admit. We blew the first 2 games, both were very winnable.

The last game was good, but consitancy is still getting me very frustrated with this team....
