Default Alfonso Soriano removed with injury

Quote:
CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano had to leave Monday night's game after suffering a strained left hamstring trying to catch a ball in center. His status was listed as day-to-day.

Soriano dove for the ball in shallow center that was hit by Padres pitcher Clay Hensley. He thought he caught the ball, but he appeared to have trapped it.

Athletic trainer Mark O'Neal then went out to talk to Soriano, who was pulled from the game after hobbling upon getting up. Cubs manager Lou Piniella walked off the field with the slugger, whom he'd had a chat with before the game. Soriano was batting .234 entering the contest, and Piniella felt he'd been pressing and possibly trying to live up to the $136 million contract he signed in the offseason.

Scary moment, hopefully Soriano will be back playing in a few days. Did you know entering today's game Carlos Zambrano has more home runs than our entire starting outfield? Zambrano 1- Outfield 0. That is a complete joke

Anyway I think Soriano will pan out, at least I hope so

Soriano's injury is a hamstring strain:
Expected to miss a week; Pie called up from Iowa

Quote:
CHICAGO -- An MRI exam on Alfonso Soriano's left leg revealed a minor hamstring strain, and he did not expect to need more than a week to heal. The Cubs medical staff apparently agreed, because Soriano was not placed on the disabled list Tuesday.
The Cubs instead called up outfielder Felix Pie from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday as backup, and optioned reliever Angel Guzman to the Minor League team.

Good news considering this injury could have been much more sever. Pie came up yesterday and had a good game, which was nice to see. Maybe this 7-10 periord of time off is what Soriano needed with all of his offensive struggles.

Soriano nearing return to lineup:

Quote:
CHICAGO -- Alfonso Soriano ran with no problems on Friday, and will run again Saturday. The Cubs outfielder is getting close to running onto the field with the rest of the starting lineup.

Soriano, sidelined since Monday night with a strained left hamstring, said he still had some pain in his left leg but was feeling better. He was able to take batting practice Wednesday and Thursday in Atlanta, but hitting isn't the problem.

"It's running -- that's the problem," Soriano said Friday. "I feel it a little bit. We'll see maybe today or tomorrow how I feel and from there play Sunday, and who knows? Maybe tomorrow."

It would be great to have Soriano back in the lineup, he is such a dynamic player. I know he has been stinking it up this season, but it is only the start . Maybe this weekend we will use him in pinch-hitting situations and hopefully he will be back in the field sometime next week!
