Default Naming rights for Wrigley Field on the table

Quote:
CHICAGO -- The chief executive officer of the Tribune Company said Wednesday he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field -- even if baseball purists don't like the idea.

During an interview on CNBC, Sam Zell said despite Wrigley Field being known worldwide, he didn't get a discount because he wasn't going to use the naming rights that the field represents.

It would suck to see Wrigley Field become Verizon Field or Dunkin' Donuts Park, but Wrigley Field has always been an advertisement anyway to be fair.

it'd be outrageous if they do. But just another sign of the times. I was discussing this on a different forum, comparing the new ownership to the Glazer family taking over Manchester United. The fans aren't happy if tradition is goign to be tarnished but ultimately they are powerless. They aren't going to turn their backs on the Cubbies over this.

The Tribune company ran the Cubs like an extension of their media arm... i didn't think winning was a priority as so much influencing peopel to tune in and enjoy a game on their Super station. For all the sacrilegious acts that may take place regarding tradition, gettign the Cubs their first championship in a century would make all complaints moot, I think.
