Default Pippen: Coaches/GMs would rather have a Scottie than a Michael

Pippen hot to play for the Heat on ChicagoSports.com

Quote:
So Pippen never hesitated when he was asked—once again—about not being appreciated as much as he should have been.

"I know that, but I think people love me just as much as they love Michael," Pippen said. "The fans who understand the game, the GMs and coaches. I think they'd rather have a Scottie than a Michael."

There was an awkward, shocked pause after Pippen answered—Pippen over Jordan?—and someone finally asked why.

"Because I'm an all-around player," Pippen added. "Coaches would rather have a Scottie-type player than a Michael. I was an all-around player. I made people around me better."

Laughable.

Michael was one of the best all-around players of that era.

Compare Michael Jordan to Scottie Pippen Per 48 Minutes - Basketball-Reference.com

That compares both players for their age 28 season per 48 minutes. Mike has a small edge in every cat except rebounds (-3) and steals (-1), with a ten point edge in scoring.

Everyone would want MJ over Pip.

Pippen really says some dumb stuff.

You can really sense that he's missing the spotlight. This along with the shooting stars competition and his comeback attempt.

After he retired, you could tell he was bored and tried to fill the void with broadcasting. He went through the whole try-out process for broadcasting, did some guest spots on Bulls broadcasts, then got the job with ABC. It seems now that he's realized that the broadcasting gig doesn't quite fill the void.

BTW, during one of his guest spots on a Bulls tv broadcast, he made one of the funnier comments I've heard a commentator make. After Deng made a tough shot near the end of a game, Pippen said, "That Deng has some big balls." The other guys didn't know how to respond.
