An MRI examination of Bulls center Ben Wallace's sprained left knee ''confirmed no structural damage,'' according to a statement released by the team Sunday evening.

It remains uncertain, however, how long Wallace will be out. He was helped off the court with 5:01 to play in the Bulls' 100-97 victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday.

''At this time a timetable has not been set for Wallace's return,'' Bulls trainer Fred Tedeschi said in the statement. ''We're very happy that Ben's injury does not appear serious. We hope to know more in regards to his return ... in the next couple days.''

Mirroring the Bulls' fortunes since a 3-9 start, the news on Ben Wallace's left knee injury keeps improving each day.

Whether the best-case scenario is realized—that Wallace plays as early as Wednesday, when the Bulls begin a seven-game trip in Los Angeles against the Clippers—remains to be seen.

Although it remains uncertain exactly when veteran center Ben Wallace will return to the court, the Bulls no longer are classifying the injury to his left knee as a sprain and haven't yet ruled him out of the game Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

''It's more of a contusion, I think at this point, at the front of the knee,'' trainer Fred Tedeschi said after the team's practice session Monday at the Berto Center.

LOS ANGELES -- Ben Wallace completed two legs of an unwanted treatment triathlon Wednesday, riding a stationary bicycle at the morning shootaround and running before the night tipoff.

The only swimming Wallace did was in a sea of frustration, as the bruised tendon in his left knee forced him to miss his third game this season and just his 26th over the last 7? seasons.
