One of the top catch-and-throw guys in the Northeast, Derba has a quick release and adequate arm strength, yielding 1.8- to 1.9-second pop times, though his accuracy could improve. He receives well and calls a good game, but he needs to get better at blocking balls in the dirt. Derba has a bit of pop, as evidenced by his 11 home runs this spring, but he doesn't profile to hit for power in pro ball. He typically puts the barrel on the ball in hitter's counts, but he struggles when he falls behind.
