It takes more than the teams to make a city a great sports city...

That's why Detroit is the best. We love our teams.

Boo their own players for what?? Local media treats their players how???

I repeat... fickle

As for the Orioles.... attendance is down lately... history showed nice statistics of attendance/win..... but it is not just the attendance... but the way the fans are with the team... Baltimore is still a big Oriole town.... as are the surrounding areas

No. Fickle is Atlanta where fans don't care the Braves made the playoffs -- again -- and don't show up at playoff games for them or the Hawks.

New York is high strung. There's a difference. Would you call Montreal fans fickle? Oh, and if you use the Expos as the comparison point, you're missing the "sports" part of the argument. Not one sport -- all sport. Montreal has, continues to have and will probably always have rabid fans who cling to their teams for good and for ill -- and ride players, or vault them to mythical status on a whim. That doesn't make them bad fans -- that makes them high strung. Same with New York.

First of all, the local media are trying to sell papers, generate ratings, etc. So I would expect to be more critical in order to generate some sort of shock value and thus generate ratings/sales to bring money in. And the booing? That just shows how much people care to be honest. If there was no one there, no one would be booing, or making noise for that matter. Fans boo in general because they don't like what they see. All we as fans want is to see our team win. And judging by attendence and popularity of the teams here in New York, there are plenty of people who want to see their teams win.

Exactly .

New York fans complain a lot when a player is doing bad (Not me) but we always stick by our team. We sell out games all the time.

New York is one of the best places to have a sports team. If you think New York is one of the Worst then why would you think Boston is a good city (Im not saying you think that Diamond)?

Baltimore is not one of the best cities simply because they dont really care about there teams when there bad (Based on the crowds at the games, besides the Ravens). My friend is from Baltimore (around there) and he is a big O's fan. He knows his team sucks and he really doesnt care about them (He just hopes they do good and if they do he will start to brag about them and then pay more attention to them).

Meh..........Braves fans did get somewhat fickle towards the end of the run there. But, you gotta look at the start times. The last night start time was against Houston in the 2004 NLDS and it was one of the top 3 crowds ever.

The Hawks? Playoffs? They haven't been to the playoffs since they traded Dominique. Just like anything else, show us a winner and will will support it.

Also, someone mentioned the Falcons don't sell out earlier in the thread. Well, the Falcons have sold out every game since Blank bought the team 4 years ago........It helps to have the most exciting player in the game (whether or not than means anything remains to be seen).

The best is hands down Chicago, we support our teams better than anyone.

Worse if prob NY or Houston. They show minimal support, like I said with Clemens. They all wine when they lose.

Just my opin

I am south side Chicago.
If I had the money I would have went to every game I could have dreamed of. Just because we arent is some razzy dazzy neighborhood dont mean I dont like them.
I watched the games on WGN on my black and white t.v. as a kid, I couldnt dare go to them. But the White Sox are very succeful and no other city has the connection to me as they do.

I knew I would get hit hard from a Yank fan, but thats fine. I wasnt speaking about the Yanks specifically, more of the Jets/Giants/Knicks/and also the mets. Gheesh sorry if I offened you or anyone for that matter, but that is just my opinion. Now I feel sad.

The blackhawks need player to win, they dont's have any.
I dont watch much hockey, but you cant win if you don't spend money or support a franchise. Once they build a team, the fans will come marching in.
