The Emerald City Center has been propose by former Sonic Freddy Brown and his business partner at B2. This arena would be totally privately financed and suitable for an NBA (Sonics/relocation/expansion) and NHL (relocation/expansion) as well as Arena Football.
![]() Emerald City Center From the image you can see surrounding venues that would be like pavilions at Epcot, basically museumish type buildings/displays that would feature the state's greatest economic and cultural influences. The retractable roof would make the venue a viable option for some dynamic non-sporting events. In a recent interview on KJR-AM Seattle, Dave Bean the other investor mentioned that he had 9 entities that were highly interested in investing. He also stated that the Billion Dollar price tag was the smallest challenge.

This looks like a beautiful stadium project. I have to wonder why this wasn't proposed at a time when the Sonics still could have been saved.

Now all they need is a piece of land and investors willing to pony up a billion dollars and they're all set. This looks suspiciously like all hat, no cattle to me.

Wiggen, they mentioned that they have investors. Including one willing to foot the whole bill.

And that would be? Admittedly there are some rich guys in Seattle, but unless Bill Gates has decided to change the direction of his life, who do you know that could underwrite a project costing 1 billion dollars? Paul Allen? Unlikely, given his involvement with the Seahawks and the Trailblazers.
Who else? The piece of land they're talking about is leased to a shipping company for the next 8 years, and the last I heard nobody had talked to them about selling their land and they wouldn't be interested even if anybody did. Sorry, but until I hear from the money guys themselves, color me skeptical.

Bean mentioned that they had actually already approached the shipping company and talked finding a better lease site for the shipping company, one that actually has access to freeways.
