Default 6/22-6/24: Red Sox in San Diego

The Red Sox (46-25) visit the Padres (41-30) for a trio of weekend games:

June 22 @ 10:05 PM ET (NESN) - Daisuke Matsuzaka vs. Greg Maddux
June 23 @ 10:05 PM ET (NESN) - Tim Wakefield vs. Chris Young
June 24 @ 4:05 PM ET (NESN) - Josh Beckett vs. Jake Peavy

David Murphy has been called up for the weekend to take Schilling's spot on the roster. Murphy will then be replaced on Tuesday with Kason Gabbard.

I'd like to see Murphy get the start in one of these games. Realistically, though, we'll probably only see him once as a pinch-hitter, pinch-runner, or defensive replacement.

Tough call on the MVP/LVP situation for Game 1. Despite picking up the win and surrendering just 1 run, I can't give the MVP to Matsuzaka. Not on a night when he walked 5 batters and had to throw 126 pitches to get through 6 innings of work. There's no clear offensive star either, given that the Red Sox only scored a pair of runs on singles up the middle. Consequently, I'm going to give props to our 8th and 9th inning relief pitchers who held the one run lead and each struck out a pair of batters in their one inning of work.

Game MVPs:

Game LVP:

(Khalil Greene: 1-4, 2 K's, 5 LOB)
