Ok, enough really stupid attempts at jokes.
Yankees series was tough - A's will be, too. I think we may see the Sox drop 2 series in a row for the 1st time this year. If there is a game that is a loss ready to happen, it is Tavarez vs. Haren, after a game that ended past midnight and a cross country flight. Dice-K and Wakefield are good, but I'd say it's about 75% chance the Sox lose tonight and 50/50 the next two nights - though, that's without looking at who the A's have pitching. |

Tavarez somehow seems to pitch well when he's going up against the other team's ace. Hopefully, we'll be in for a surprise. I assume Tavarez flew out to Oakland a day earlier so that he can rest and get acclimated. I want to win at least 2 out of 3 before the Yankees get a chance to gain momentum. The last thing we need is to have our lead whittled down to single digits by the end of the road trip.

I don't know. But I got to see my club pull a guy before his second out.

A's lead 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Mark Ellis hit a double and moved to third base on a fly ball to right. He's a single short of the cycle.
Tavarez is done for the night after 5 2/3 innings of work on a season-high 107 pitches. Brendan Donnelly coming into the game in relief. Haren is mowing us down. It doesn't look like we'll win this one. |

Oakland expands its lead to 4-2 in the 8th.
Youkilis made a bone-headed move. With runners at 1st and 2nd, Mark Ellis grounded to Youkilis at third. Instead of simply touching third base for the second out of the inning, he made a bad throw to Pedroia at second. The throw pulled Pedroia off the bag prematurely and everybody was safe on the play. The next batter then hit a sac fly to Ramirez for the insurance run. Old friend Alan Embree now pitching for the A's in the 9th. David Ortiz leads off with a double...how big is that Youkilis error looming now? |
