Is it time to start worrying about Schilling? This is three in a row that aren't good starts.

You can't expect the Sox to be as desperate as the Yankees tonight...they only needed one. Tough to get "up" for this game.

If the Red Sox have trouble getting "up" for games against the Yankees, the Yankees still may have hope yet in the division.

That being said, they don't have trouble bringing their best effort against the Yankees. Schilling just pitched badly, that's all.

It would have been nice to shut them down. Giving them hope is a little dangerous.

Hmm.. in a week, we see them *again* It looks like the rotations line up to be either wakefield, tavarez schilling again, or wakefield, schilling beckett, depending on if they skip julian.

I think they have schilling, beckett, dice-k vs. cleveland, then an off day, then june 4th is a loss (fly to the west coast after an 8 pm start yankee game? and play that night? that game won't end till midnight, the sox get to the coast around sunrise.... they will be sleepwalking on the 4th)

I'm definitely worried about Schilling. He's supposed to be the ace of our staff and he hasn't pitched like one in over two weeks. He's getting hit hard, to all parts of the ballpark. Maybe it's a good thing that the Red Sox didn't extend his contract during spring training. He had an opportunity to slay the dragon last night and failed miserably. If he's suddenly lost it, and if Wakefield is going to continue giving up 5+ runs every time out, and if Beckett loses confidence in his breaking pitches because of his avulsion, our starting pitching will suddenly look very pedestrian. I'm glad that Matsuzaka at least seems to be improving. Everyone else is going downhill.

I also think we're relying way too much on the potential of Jon Lester as staff savior. I feel we'd get more out of Kason Gabbard, who for unexplained reasons continues to slide under radar despite compiling impressive minor league numbers and looking very good in limited major league appearances.

Well, so far, Tavarez has been about as good as we can expect lester to be.

Schilling I'm not yet worried about - he's still got an era below 4.00. Last year, believe it or not, he had a *worse* May, with an ERA over 5.00. Course, May isn't over yet.

Sure, Beckett could change his style out of fear of blisters..... but I dunno that he will do that.

I am not yet worried about the Sox pitching.

With New York's loss at Toronto, and Boston's win against Cleveland, the Red Sox now lead the Yankees by 13 1/2 games in the AL East.
