Default 5/11-5/13 - O's in town

Matchups will be:

5/11 - Tavarez vs. Burres
5/12 - Schilling vs. Trachsel
5/13 - Beckett vs. Guthrie

O's just swept TB (3 in a row) and split a 4 game series with Cleveland.

Boston has won 4 in a row and 7 of their last 8.

Sox are 2nd in the league in runs scored and 2nd in ERA.

O's are 9th in the league in runs scored and 8th in ERA.

This has the makings of a fun weekend for the Sox and perhaps a continued vacation for Jonathan Papelbon.

Always fun when Millar comes back to Fenway. If the sox have a big homestand (I think they will) Steinbrenner may have a nervous break down.

Not sure about this one. Tavarez is better than 6.48, but I know nothing about the kid up against him.

Sox drop the first one. A bunch of web gems in this one, plus a bunch of wierd looking and lackadaisical plays by the sox. A bad throw home by youk, a wierd short relay being cutoff, a bad route by pena and his error. I'm not sure that anything other than the error hurt the sox... but there was a lot of sloppy looking play.

On the face of it, this should be a Sox win. Sox offense is better and, while Trachsel has been pitching well, he's not Schilling.

Great win yesterday, tempered by the return of Beckett's finger woes. Hopefully, this will only cost a start or two.

The Orioles gave this game away (much to my delight), so it's hard to say that the Red Sox really earned this victory. We won on a combination of luck, horrendous defense, bad managing and poor relief pitching. Looking at the box score, no one really stands out for the Red Sox. Consequently, I'm going to recognize Jeremy Guthrie's outstanding 8 1/3 shutout innings.

Game MVP:

Game LVP:

I'm impressed by the resilience we displayed in this game. With one out in the inning, it's quite a feat to score 6 runs - even if half of them came on errors and walks.

oh - I think their manager should get the LVP...

Guthrie is a good choice for MVP, even in a losing cause.

I thought about going with Perlozzo as the LVP but (1) he's not a player and (2), despite the stupidity of pulling a dominating starter with a low pitch count, a bullpen should be able to record 2 measley outs before surrendering 6 runs.
