Default 4/23-4/24 - Two more with toronto (or, interlude, pt 1)

Info on lineups, etc, later.

We are looking to get Ohka and Halladay again, with Wakefield and Tavarez going for the Sox.

Blue Jays are reeling - they got swept by the O's over the weekend and have now lost 5 straight.

Dunno if the Sox can hope for better than a split - intuitively, it seems hard to believe that the Sox could beat Halladay with Tavarez twice in a week

Wow that was a JOKE of a call. With one out and Hill on first, Pena traps the ball (it clearly hit the ground) and the umpire with the worst view of them all says it was caught. Jays just got cheated out of 2 outs!

Pedroia with a bases loaded double! 2-1 Red Sox in the 4th, men at 2nd and 3rd for Lugo.

I'd be kind of pissed about that call on the pena play, too. I'd be pissed at Hill, too, for getting doubled off.

Jays currently up, 4-2. Wakefield, apparently, is capable of giving up more than 1 ER in a game.

This was disappointing. Ohka entered the game with a 7+ ERA and we stranded runners practically every inning. Then Timlin gives up the 2-run dinger with 2 outs in the 9th. I would have felt a little bit better about our chances in this one with just a 2-run deficit. This was the game that we needed to win in order to avoid the sweep. I doubt we beat Halladay two consecutive times.

yeah. I would worry about facing halladay, too. You never know, but.

John Kruk, on baseball tonight, is stuttering talking about ARod. They are now arguing over whether ARod is worth $25M or not.

Hopefully our bats can do something against Halladay. He ususally has our number, so I just want them to not squander opportunities, by trying to hit the long ball.

Tied after 1. Tavarez is settling down, perhaps.

Lowell brings us back within a run with a homer over the Monster, and Tavarez then gives up 2 more. Frustrating. Scoring 3 runs off Halladay isn't easy.

The Blue Jays score 4 additional runs after a play in which Wily Mo makes two errors. First, he drops the ball out of the webbing of his glove, then he throws it offline allowing the runners to advance. And now another error by Varitek for good measure, followed by two more hits off Kyle Snyder. Four errors total on the night.

The Bronson Arroyo trade looks worse and worse every day. We should have been out of the inning trailing 6-3, and now we're down 10-3. We would have been much better off with Arroyo as our No. 5 starter both last year and this year. One of the worst deals of the Epstein era.

my opinion on the arroyo deal at the time was that it was a good one for the Sox, because Pena had the ability to be a star and i didn't think Arroyo did.

In retrospect, I still think that to be true... but the Sox made a mistake in the making the deal, and not just because of the way it worked out. The problem is that Wily Mo has huge holes in his game and he needs playing time to work them out... but the Sox can't give him that PT, because he's just not that good a player now.

of course, given how it's turned out, it looks even worse and frankly, i don't see how the Sox can make it better.
