Great first inning for the Red Sox. 4 runs on 4 hits (Youkilis, Ortiz, Ramirez, Crisp.) A big 2-out RBI double by Coco to double the lead. He really needed a clutch hit in that spot. Boston fans have him on a very short leash after a disappointing 2006 season. Running up the pitch count on Weaver should help the Red Sox in the latter innings as well, if it exhausts the Seattle bullpen.

The Red Sox bats continue to smack Weaver around in the 2nd inning. Three runs on three extra base hits - doubles by Lugo and Youkilis, plus a 2-out homerun to center by J.D Drew. Weaver's pitch count is up to 70 through just 2 innings. Welcome back to the American League!

Red Sox chase Weaver out of the game and add another run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single by Julio Lugo. Boston could have padded the score even more that inning, as a throwing error put runners into scoring position with just one out. But Youkilis and Ortiz left them stranded.

good, fun game for the Sox - for the Mariners, there will be better days.

It has to be rough to not play for nearly a week.

The score sounded like a video game, not MLB. I don't expect either side to have much of an offense tomorrow.

quote of the day, from rotoworld:
Quote:
Jason Varitek went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a walk on Tuesday to raise his average to .250.

Varitek seems to have Babe Ruth-type bat speed these days, something that'd be more impressive if the Babe weren't 60 years dead. Let's see if he can still gets hits on days when the Red Sox aren't scoring 14 runs.

Despite Rotoworld's disparaging remarks about Varitek, I'm still going to name him co-MVP of today's game, along with Josh Beckett. Varitek led the team in hits and RBI. He broke out of a major offensive rut and kept rallies going so that we could put the Mariners away early.

Co-MVPs of the Game:

yup. I hope he's back - his swings have looked good - he's never going to have a real pretty, compact one, but he doesn't seem to be flailing.
