Default Scouting Report on Matsuzaka

This is from a Mariners site pre-bid, back when the world thought that the Mariners were going to be the team.

But I think Red Sox posters would like to see it.

Good stuff, Bedir - thanks.

The only thing that I read from Matsuzaka was from Rob Neyer, and his gyroball articles.

This is a lot more insightful, a must read.

So, that makes him sound pretty good - curveball, 2 fastballs and a changeup. I hope his adjustment is fast - there is a worry, in my mind, that what worked in Japan won't work so well here, and it will take a while for him to get it together.

Here are the YouTube search results for 'Daisuke Matsuzaka' :

If you've never seen this guy pitch, go right ahead and do it now. This guy has Pedro-like movement on his pitches, can arc the ball to either side, and throws almost every damn pitch in the book at one time or another.

I was prepared to be bummed out of my mind if the Yankees had nabbed this guy. Frankly I was hoping any non-Yankee team would've ended up with his rights, as I wasn't expecting Boston to make anything more than a token bid. I'm optimistic that the Red Sox can get him signed to a contract.
