Default Trot Nixon signs with Cleveland

Farewell Nixon. You were here a long time and gave us some great memories. I'll never forget the game-winning homerun you hit in extra innings of the '03 ALDS, or the way you'd patrol the outfield with reckless abandon. It's a shame it had to end this way, especially when you're being replaced by someone who is even more injury-prone, at more than 5 times the annual cost. I would have been more comfortable giving Nixon a 1 year deal, and using the $11 million difference towards luring Clemens. Too late now.

Enjoy spending a year in Cleveland with Keith Foulke.

I'll never forget the clutch hitting and how he delivered against Clemens. I think Trot would've had better numbers if he played for a non-contender during his early years, as the Sox never let him develop against lefties.
What if, however, Nixon performs well, Cleveland falls out of the race, and JD is either hurt or not producing? Stranger things have happened, and he could end up back in Boston for the stretch run...

I hope that Trot comes back before the end. One of my favorite players, though can't stay healthy...

I agree with Zen. I'd have signed him and spent the money saved on Drew on someone else.

My prediction is that Nixon will not be platooned in Cleveland and will hit just fine against lefties, and if he can stay healthy, will have a great year.

I will miss him. He was one of my favorite Sox.

For 13 years he has struggled to hit lefties, why is that going to change?

Don't get me wrong, I like Nixon, and am sad to see him leave the Red Sox, but he just can't hit lefties and he never has.

If he could not hit lefties it's because they never gave him a chance to.

welcome aboard, castevens!!

I'll miss trot. Healthy, he's one of the best hitters in the league vs. RHP, but he can't stay healthy and he can't hit lefties and it seems unlikely he's going to start being healthier or better able to hit lefties at this point in his career.
