Default Trade in the winds?

What's up with the Red Sox signing JC Romero to a guaranteed, $1.6M contract???
They had already signed japanese lefty Hideki Okajima.
They have Javier Lopez who did a great job in limited duty last year
27g 16.6IP 2.70ERA .232BA .362 OBP, no earned run in 10 IP vs Lh batters
Craig Breslow was good, too, in his 2006 stint (13g 12IP .261 BA), he does fare better vs righties...
+ they have Kason Gabbard, Jon Lester who could pitch out of the now-crowded rotation.

As of today, it looks like the Red Sox will carry 12 pitchers, which is something they usually don't do, that leaves too thin of a bench (Cora, Mirabelli, WPena, Hinske), who backs up Coco?

Are they planning to use one of the lefties as a closer? Okajima perhaps? the most he did was 25 Saves back in 2001, he's more of a setup man.

Trade in the winds? heard the Tigers are looking for a lefty reliever and lefty bat... Hinske&Lopez for Monroe/Thames?
Pirates have 3 good lh relievers (Gonzalez , Grabow, Damaso Marte), the Reds 4 (Bray, Cormier, Stanton, Shackelford), the Cubs 3 (Ohman, Scott Eyre, Cotts), they haven't found takers...

I know this wasn't the point of your post, but WMPena and Drew could both back up Coco. In fact, Pena seemed to play a better defensive CF than RF last year.

You have a point, I do think I remember Willy Mo being a Yankee Centerfield prospect, not a corner one, and that might explain why he was ever so not good (we can't say bad, see Adam Dunn, Soriano play LF...) playing a corner OF spot.
So you think it's possible Red Sow carry 12 pitchers? with the 13 position players being:
1b Youkilis
ss JLugo
DH Papi
LF Manny
RF DJDrew
3b Lowell
c Tek
2b Pedroia
CF Crisp
bench: Cora, Mirabelli, WMPena, Hinske
we still need a closer, and it looks like the skankees got one we coveted, Mike Gonzalez from Pirates... Otsuka for Gabbard? helps both teams...

Otuska the Rangers closer for Gabbard? Lets just say this, its not gonna happen. That would be a huge ripoff for Texas.

My guess is that Hinske is starting for another team by April. He's:
a) too good to be a #5 outfielder
b) not good enough to be anything else for us
In other words, he should be worth more to another team than to us. But not enough to bring back anything of much value, but maybe a backup outfielder who is better defensively, or can be used for pinch running maybe.
