Default Kapler retires, will manage Greenville

I think this is good news, everything I heard said that Kapler was a good clubhouse guy, plus he know strength and nutrition from his time as a body builder so he could help out at the lower levels with guys that may never have done much strength training.

I guess... is this normal? For a player to go from big leagues to manager? Shouldn't he be a coach for awhile, first?

It seems weird to me, but what do I know?

At the A-ball level they probably only have 2, maybe 3 coaches (including the manager). I saw some quote (I forget where) that indicated that Kapler has been planning on coaching for a while. It is a little unusual, to go straight to managaer, but I bebeive that the Red Sox have been hanging onto Kapler to groom him as a manager for the minors.
