Smile Jon Lester Cancer free!

Boston.com article

Quote:
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It was a simple game of catch. It was an affirmation of life, and healing.

When Red Sox pitchers and catchers report to spring training in February, a little over a month past his 23d birthday, Jon Lester expects to be among them. Chances are, he'll be an early arrival, but can you blame him for his eagerness?

There is one cycle of chemotherapy still ahead this month, but last Thursday, doctors took a look at his CT scan and told him there were no cancer cells visible.

Schilling also said he will start throwing with Jon Lester on Dec. 15. Lester was recently cleared to resume his training after undergoing chemotherapy for cancer of the lymph nodes.

This is the best news of the off-season for me. In this modern age of moneyball, it's great to see a kid with talent who, through unfortunate circumstances, has learned how much basesball means to him. This is the type of good news that can inspire a team, and hopefully make this a team instead of a group of individuals.
