Sox win in a game with several swings.
Pregame: Drew has a back problem, so Moss takes his place. Early going: Dice-K is wild and gives up 2 in the first, none in the 2nd, but looks bad. Blanton is solid early, giving up some hits but no damage. middle innings: Dice-K settles down, Blanton stay tough. 1st turning point: Top 6th, Manny drives in 2, Moss 1 to put the Sox up 3-2. 2nd turning point: Bottom 6th, Kyle Snyder shows everyone why KC released him 2 years ago, immediately giving up a 2 run HR. 7th and 8th: Relief pitching is very solid. 3rd turning point: Top 9th, Huston Street serves up a meatball to Moss, who hits it out. Finale: Top 10th: Lugo on 2nd, A's walk Papi with 2 outs, Manny doubles them both in (almost doesn't make it into 2nd admiring the ball), sox up 6-4. Bottom 10th: papelbon walks the leadoff guy, k's the next guy, then serves up a double off the wall in Right center... but Emil Brown makes the first bone-headed play of the season and tries to get to 3rd and is out. Next two guys single, so he clearly cost them a tie, if not a win. sox win, 6-5, in a not very clean game. |

We didnt' get a Game #2 thread. I barely woke up and actually spent most of the game half-asleep. Much like the Sox bats, though they had Harden to blame for it.
Ah well - now back to ST. Apparently, the games are all going to be played in the LA Coliseum... which, apparently, has a 60 ft high LF wall 200 ft from home when configured as a baseball stadium? Is that right? Wow - Manny is actually going to be able to play deep short, the way he tried to in fenway. |
