Default Sox interested in Gagne...

So along with nailing down Drew and Lugo, the Sox are turning their attention to closer Eric Gagne.

Quote:
The Sox still need a closer, and yesterday they spoke with Boras about the oft-injured Eric Gagne, who dominated the National League early in the decade for the Dodgers but has had elbow and shoulder problems.
If Gagne is healthy again, he'd be a great pickup. A bonified closer.

It looks like we are poaching the Dodgers lineup a little, but hey thats their problem if they don't want to resign these guys

The Red Sox are worse than the Yankees this off season, dang!!! Usually its the Yankees spending a lot during the off season. Now if any Red Sox fan trys to tell me that we spend a lot of money im going to tell them that they do it too.

I know they havent signed Gagne yet, but if they do wow there trying to be like the Yankees. The Red Sox just have to hope that these players can deal with those Boston fans.

The Red Sox need pitching more than ever so they should be trying to sign pitchers more than getting more hitters.

If he gets signed this would be the Boston Dodgers.

It would not be good to have Gagne. I can't say that he's washed up, but I can say that his career is over. After having I think two surgeries on his arm, and nearly two consecutive seasons where he pretty much hasn't been able to appear too much, I can't see him making a comeback. Him and Kerry Wood will not have the same future as people had hoped for.

What about Papelbon? Was he not good enough?

I think the dodgers have been "Red Sox West" for a while with:

Grady Little
Nomar
Derek Lowe
Juan Cruz jr

With Foulke reportedly contemplating whether to accept arbitration, the Red Sox may decide not to pursue Gagne.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Red Sox fan who would be comfortable with Foulke back in the closer's role.

I'd love to see that rubberball, I just have my doubts that the Red Sox will pony up the cash for both Clemens and Matsuzaka. We'd be approaching Yankee payroll territory.

Something tells me that Boston isn't going to end up with Clemens OR Dice K.

Getting Gagne would be great for Boston, I still think he has a lot of domanance to show-off.
