I'm not too happy about Posey signing with the New Orleans Hornets for 4 years. He was a key contributor to Boston's championship this year. It will be tough replacing him, although I'm hopeful that Tony Allen can be 80% as effective. When healthy, Allen is a very underrated Artest-type, who can be a threat both offensively and defensively. With Posey gone, the Celtics definitely need to bring Tony Allen back and hope that he can take on a bigger role in 08-09. I'd also like to see the Celtics use the MLE to sign Michael Finley and to retain Eddie House, a great chemistry and energy guy who can spread the floor on offense and score a ton of points in a hurry.
I think this would be a good team: C Perkins / C O'Bryant / C Davis PF Garnett / PF Powe / PF Scalabrine SF Pierce / SF Finley / SF Walker PG Rondo / PG House / PG Pruitt SG R. Allen / SG T. Allen / SG Giddens Late in the year for extra PG depth, the Celtics could waive the useless Scalabrine and sign a veteran PG for the league minimum. Someone like Lindsey Hunter would probably be useful in that capacity. I don't think Cassell has anything left. He was dreadful during the playoffs.

The Celtics re-signed Eddie House and Tony Allen. House received a 1 year contract for $2.7 million, with a player option for $2.9 million in 2009-10. Allen signed for 2 years/$5 million.
Celtics agree to deals with House, Tony Allen - Celtics Blog - Boston.com I'm happy with both of these signings. I think Allen will surprise a lot of people with his defensive prowess and penetration offense. He's a really good player who just needs playing time in order to make a name for himself. His knee injury from a couple years ago slowed him down somewhat, causing some critics to question whether he would ever be as effective as he was in 2005-06. However, he should be fully recovered by now, and ready to compete for Posey's spot. The only thing holding him back is his own confidence. He doesn't want to test his knees by exerting too much pressure on them. For the 15th and final spot on the roster, the Celtics appear to be talking to Devean George. I don't see what he would add, other than championship experience and solid defense. He played for the Lakers during their threepeat. I think the Celtics would be better off adding another scorer for the bench like Michael Finley, or going with a veteran PG like Lindsey Hunter. Unless Gabe Pruitt makes the leap from 13th man afterthought to backup PG, the Celtics will again be without a classic point guard to back up Rondo. House is more of a SG, though you can get by with him at PG during the regular season. Ray Allen, Tony Allen and Paul Pierce can all bring the ball up the floor as well.
