Outstanding performance by the Celtics against a legitimate Western Conference contender. 77 points scored in the first half? When's the last time any team did that, let alone our Celtics?
The passing game was phenomenal for the first three quarters of the game. When guys look to find the open man, it's much easier to take a high percentage shot. I commend Pierce for his unselfishness. He passed up a lot of jumpers that he would have taken last year in order to dish the ball to someone stationed closer to the basket. That no-look behind-the-back pass to Perkins was Cousyesque. I also loved him connecting with Garnett on an alley hoop. Is anyone else impressed by the role players on this team? Garnett, Pierce and Allen aren't the only guys winning us games. Eddie House and James Posey have been superb off the bench and Tony Allen seems to be regaining some of that explosiveness that had some of us thinking he could be the next Ron Artest (basketball-wise.) Our starters and second unit gave us a 41 point lead early in the second half. That lead partially dissipated only because some of the second-tier backups got careless with the ball late in the game. Brian Scalabrine, in particular, was absolutely dreadful. He turned the ball over several times and tossed a few airballs for good measure. I couldn't understand why the Garden Faithful were chanting his name throughout the 4th quarter. It didn't sound derisive to me. The good news is that Scalabrine will never be in there in a close game. |
