It's tough to see this deal go out when Aramis took quite a bit less to provide a similar type bat at 3B. But the Astros are pretty set with Morgan Ensberg on the cheap and have the money to spend:
- Clemens off-the-books - Pettite is gone - Biggio's on a one-year deal - Berkman and Ensberg are bargains - Lidge seems tradable So the Astros got the best power hitter at a price they can readily afford. As a fan, I'd be excited.. - Kevin

As a fan of the Astros, I'd be excited.
But I'm an O's fan....so I'm dissapointed. Now we've missed out on all the big bats available (A. Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, Drew).

Point No. 2-The Astros can readily afford that salary today, but as the contract progresses and it begins to pinch the budget, ticket prices will be raised and the fans in south Texas will be asked to readily afford his salary. Too many MLB teams have the financial responsibility of drunken sailors who find themselves on shore leave and in a cathouse. |
