courant.com | A-Rod Mum On Escape Clause
Hartford Courant: "If Alex Rodriguez thinks he is unpopular now, imagine the reaction if he were to opt out of the richest contract in baseball history in hopes of leveraging still more millions." http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/p...702070391/1108 Journal News: "There are four years to go on his 10-year, $252 million contract, and he can opt out after this season. But Rodriguez didn't directly answer a question about whether he would do so. He did say, though, that he hopes to play in the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium with Derek Jeter as representatives of the Yankees." North Jersey Media Group providing local news, sports & classifieds for Northern New Jersey! Bergen Record: "Torre and A-Rod are coming back, but their Yankee futures are in question beyond 2007. This is the final year of Torre's contract, and Rodriguez's 10-year, $252 million contract allows him to declare free agency after this season... The Yankees are not seeking to enter discussions about extending Mariano Rivera's contract during spring training, according to a person familiar with the situation." NJ.com: Everything Jersey Newark Star-Ledger (registration required): "Rodriguez said yesterday he has no lingering issue with manager Joe Torre for moving him down the lineup and has no concerns about his image. But Rodriguez did duck a question about whether he would consider exercising the clause in his contract that allows him to become a free agent after this season." A-Rod leaving? - Newsday.com Newsday: "In between signing copies of his new children's book and exchanging fist bumps with kids in Yankees gear, Alex Rodriguez yesterday was asked for his thoughts on his contractual clause that allows him to opt out of pinstripes after the 2007 season." New York Daily News - Baseball - Alex open to options New York Daily News: "Alex Rodriguez says there are no issues to resolve with Joe Torre before spring training begins next week, despite the disappointing way last season ended for both of them in Detroit... If you look @ the remains on his current contract and what the market was this offseason, he is actually underpaid....shocking, i know, but true.
ARod can opt out of this deal and get another HUGE 7 year deal to finish out his career. Add that onto the fact that NY isnt fond of him and I think you will see ARod opt out at the end of the year.

A-Rod could strike it even richer
Buffalo News - A-Rod could strike it even richer Buffalo News columnist Jerry Sullivan: "Here's a concept that's sure to arouse the ire of disaffected sports fans: Alex Rodriguez as underpaid. It would have seemed ludicrous to imagine such a thing when A-Rod signed his 10-year, $252 million contract in 2001. But there's a chance the Yankees' embattled superstar could opt out of the final three years of that deal and become a free agent after the 2007 season. "

Yea, pretty much what I said....
If he opts out of the deal he IS going to get alot more money. I dont see anyway he DOESNT opt out, unless the yanks win it all this year. I think thats the 1 way that he would stay

Braves, let's say his market if he opst out is 7/140
Let's say his market if he stays with the deal is 5/100 at the end of the his current deal. If he opts out he is then going to lose money, as he would have opted out of 10M$ dollars or so. If he can still get a longer deal at the end of the current one he loses even more. Opting out can cost him cash quite easily, as he would be forgoing 50M$ guarunteed.

Soriano and Lee just got what 18 and 19 mi a piece ?
Or something close to that I think ARod gets more than 20 mil a year, easy Boston wanted him before, and IF he hits the open market, with the hole they have @ 3b and SS you dont think they would throw everything @ him to get him in Boston ? I realize he would be taking a risk if he opts out. But you have to look @ this way to, when his current deal runs out he wont be inline for bigtime money because he would be 36 or so. So by opting out now he can cash in and get that last huge contract ( not that he needs it )

I dont think its that far out of the relm of possibilties, 645.
He might not get 25 mil a year but he might get 22 mil or something for a longer duration than his current deal. And in the end it would end up being more money for him...

Yeah but his numbers droped last year and if he don't bring them up to what they were 2 years ago this upcoming season teams might think he is on a decline and he may be and the likely will not have that kind of season next year.
So could he get $22 Million? yeah sure but he get that for more then 4 years with teams knowing that he might not be worth that by then. Really is it worth for him to give up $3 Million a year for 3 Years to add an extra year at $22 when he may still may be good enough then to get $17 or $18. Well that's the question and I really don't know the answer to it. |
