Default Pirates GM wants to settle arbitration cases

Beaver County Times Allegheny Times - Pirates notes: GM wants to settle arbitration cases

"BIG BEAVER — Hearing dates have been scheduled for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ four potential arbitration cases, but General Manager Dave Littlefield is optimistic they won’t reach that point.

I really feel good that we’re going to wrap all of them up without a hearing,” Littlefield said Tuesday. “That’s pretty much been our history, and I’m confident we can do that again.”

The Pirates have gone to a hearing only once in Littlefield’s six years on the job, losing to shortstop Jack Wilson prior to the 2004 season.

Hearings are slated for Feb. 8 with third baseman and reigning National League batting champion Freddy Sanchez, Feb. 13 with newly acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche, Feb. 14 with second baseman Jose Castillo and Feb. 19 with left-handed reliever John Grabow."
