Good lord. He's one of the most obvious cases of a player having a career year since Adrian Beltre. And unlike Beltre, he's already 32 and will be 37 at the end of his contract. Horrible signing.

I don't know how a 32-year-old journeyman CF (this will be his 7th team in 8 years) who had ONE decent year (wouldn't even call it a career year) deserves anywhere near $10 million a year.
I'm embarrassed to be an Angels fa right now. |

A bad signing but better for the Angels than Garciaparra/Pierre for the Dodgers or Thomas for the Jays. That's alot of money being thrown around for guys who are either broken down (Nomar/Thomas) or past their prime (Pierre). Matthews had a career year and cashed in, I doubt he will be able to repeat it over the next five years

Well the Angels system is the best in the AL and is 2nd only to the Dodgers. I wouldn't be too eager to trade any of them away either.
But, under the right circumstances, I would trade some of them for a big bat, because the Angels are close enough that another big bat could put them over. And thats the best time to trade prospects.
