Another bad move by Seattle. If Seattle doesn't really improve next season Bill Bavasi will be out of a job.

Snelling hasn't played CF for more than a handful of games in the last five years. I think it was in Everett when he was last a starter there.
Now I know that Will Carrol is an advocate of moving someone who has the injury bug to CF in order to keep them healthy, but I doubt any team is listening to him. Snellling will start in the outfield, but it will be at a corner position.

What team gets better by getting older and getting worse offense in the deal? Snelling could have put up a 280/330/400 line easily, and expecting more than that from Vidro is a foolish idea.

Snelling has proven nothing so far, so I don't see how you can have such high expectations of him. Vidro has proven two things; one that he is a great player when healthy, and the other is that he has had a hard time staying healthy. The gamble is that he will be able to stay healthy next year. If he does, Seattle comes out way ahead. If he doesn't they loose in this trade.
Snelling has just as big of a problem with injuries, so that factor is a wash as far as I can see. I guess it all boils down to if you want an outfielder or an infielder. |

Position doesn't matter for DHs, at least not when Vidro has said he isn't healthy enough to play the field more than once a week.
Pecota from Baseball Prospectus for both players Code:
EqBA EqOBP EqSLG EqA Age ‘07 Salary Jose Vidro .283 .352 .406 .266 32 $7.5M Chris Snelling .265 .356 .438 .283 25 $1.0M*

I really really despise that stupid "proven" argument crap.
What Vidro has done in the past completely and utterly irrelevant. He's not that same player anymore and everybody but apparently Bill Bavasi knows that. Vidro has proven two things. 1. That he is already a worse offensive player than Chris Snelling, and that's if Snelling never improves at all and 2.He's so immobile and gimpy that he can't play the field anymore, to where Snelling can still play the corners. Neither has proven they can stay healthy, I will give you that. But out of two players who are of similar dispositions, who would you choose the worse, older, more expensive one?
