Probably more like Nomo than anything else. At least for Nomo's first two seasons. Top 4 in CyYoung voting for first two seasons with an ERA+ of 150 and 120. But he should do it for more than those two seasons, as he is a more advanced pitcher than Hideo.

The deal also has what agent Scott Boras called a "litany of personal comforts" like a massage therapist, physical therapist, personal housing, interpreter, personal assistant, 80-90 flights, and "accommodations for his wife." An official announcement is expected to come at 5 p.m. EST Thursday.
Ball players have a tough life, eh? |

Why do people keep lomping these 2 different playments together? They are paying the Sebu Lions 51.1 million NOW, that is a payment that has already been made the moment that a contract was signed.
Then they are paying Matsuzaka 8.6 million a year. We'll see who is smiling one he starts to pitch in the majors...

Also note that people that lump the posting fee in don't bother to do the same with players signed out of Latin leagues.

Because the league doesn't count it towards payroll for purposes of Luxury Tax or Revenue sharing. Just like signing bonuses towards Drafted players or Latin acquisitions don't count.

That is what this fee is, the Red Sox paid Sebu for developing Matsuzaka, plus a finders fee.

Done deal, G R E A T
I'm French, live in Paris and have Japanese friends from Sunday softball, + a Bostonian friend who's been living here a long time, so you can say I'm "involved" in this transaction. I just can't wait to see televised games, without commercials, from mlb.com (this is not a commercial I just love baseball, as all of you already know this site, the espn, foxsports, sports illustrated, sportsline, et al) I can't tell you how fun it's gonna be, american style, with the pizza, chips and booze/pot, and the game of course, on projector, so big screen! Way to go Red Sox!! can't wait to see them kill the Yankees! You bet every Matsuzaka's game versus the Skankees is gonna bring a lot of us to Dave's place... I still think I'm dreaming, pinch me! Have they REALLY signed him? April's too far off now, damnit! |
