Jon Lieber Available

Since the Phillies have acquired Freddy Garcia, this seemingly makes Jon Lieber available, and the Phillies want relief help.

I think something will get done here, probably within the next day or two. I would like Turnbow, but not sure who else Milwaukee has that they can move besides Capellan.

They ought to talk to Washington. They're known to have interest in Church, and the Nats can give them Rauch, Ayala, Wagner, or Bowie.

Or the Yankees, who need a Plan B in case Pettitte stays in Houston. Proctor? Farnsworth?

I'll take Proctor from the Yanks, but I know Texas is interested, and the Phillies are gonna wait to make the best deal. Ryan Madson is the rumor with Ryan Church.

The Cubs are also supposed to be interested in Church. Reportedly, they're offering Sean Marshall.

The Yankees can give them young OFs like Reese or Thompson, but Thompson is rumored to be headed to Pittsburgh for Damaso Marte. Guiel?

Jon Lieber would be too expensive for the Nationals. The Pirates are also reportedly interested.

What's Lieber's salary?

And the Pirates are no more inclined to spend than the Nats are.

Besides, the Nats have lost about 27 million in payroll from last year.

Lieber is due to make $7.5 million in 2007. The Pirates can obviously afford him if they are going after Jeff Suppan.
