Default White Sox - Phillies Trade

Quote:
The first part has the Phillies adding Freddy Garcia from the White Sox for prospects Gavin Floyd and a player to be named after the Rule 5 Draft. That player is Double-A lefty Gio Gonzalez, who arrived in Philadelphia in last year's trade that netted Aaron Rowand for Jim Thome.
I think the original deal (Aaron Rowand and Ryan Madson for Freddy Garcia) would have been better for the White Sox, but this deal is not bad.

Phils acquire Garcia from White Sox

Great trade for the Phillies. Gonzalez is the key to this deal, but the Phillies have some pitching prospects in their system, so one of them was expendable. Gavin Floyd stinks.

It's not too bad of a trade. Garcia is now in the 2nd tier of pitchers. He is a much better acquisition for the Phillies then signing Meche, Lilly, and most other FA pitchers for the money it's requiring.

For the Sox they make room in the rotation for McCarthy and pick up some potential.

Gonzalez is the potential in that deal. WIP mentioned about Gavin Floyd: million dollar arm, 10% brain. The WhiteSox didn't make a horrible trade, but Gavin Floyd looks so scared everytime he goes on that mound. I hope the whitesox can turn him around.

I am not to big on giving up Gonzalez, but I do like the aqquisition of Garcia, seriously sures up our rotation. I would have rather given up Rowand instead of Gonzalez. Rowand just doesn't fit in Philly. And I have something against trading young takented pitcher. If the white sox can fix Floyd and Gonzalez continues to develop then this is a steal for the WS.
