What does that mean that Mike Morse and Freddy Garcia are the same? Or Coco Crisp and Marte? No, it means they were involved in a trade, that's it.

Putz was the 2nd best closer in baseball behind Nathan last year. Him and Jones, who is a very good centerfield prospect would be a pretty good package IMO.
There's also talks of Noah Lowry coming from San Fran to Seattle. I don't know if more players are involved from their side or not.

Putz and Jones is quite bit, I'd love Soriano in their at the closer role, but it'd be tough to part with Putz. Lowry is a nice additionand a cheap SP in an expensive market, it would fill a lot of needs the M's want, get the Red Sox their closer and Adam Jones, both of which they've been hot for, and Giants get a guy capable of driving in some runs in the middle. I think this is a deal these three teams could get too work.

B.J. Ryan Jonathan Papelbon Trevor Hoffman Billy Wagner Putz was very good last season, but 2nd best in baseball? All of the closers above had just as good, if not better, years than Putz. |

JJ Putz: 78.1 IP 104/13 K/BB ratio(8.00) 11.95 K/9 2.33 xFIP 36 saves(which is a bad measure really, but it's there) BJ Ryan: 72.1 IP 86/20 K/BB ratio(4.30) 10.70 K/9 3.15 xFIP 38 saves Jonathan Papelbon: 68.1 IP 75/13 K/BB ratio(5.77) 9.88 K/9 3.31 xFIP 35 saves Trevor Hoffman: 63.0 IP 50/13 K/BB ratio(3.85) 7.14 K/9 4.34 xFIP 46 saves Billy Wagner: 72.1 IP 94/21 K/BB ratio(4.48) 11.70 K/9 2.82 xFIP 40 saves Putz was easily better than all of those. Wagner comes kinda close, but not really. And since your an Angel fan. Francisco Rodriguez: 73.0 IP 98/28 K/BB ratio(3.50) 12.08 K/9 3.22 xFIP 47 saves K-Rod comes pretty close to Putz. I'd probably say he was the third best closer in baseball last year.

I think it'll take a bit more then Putz, but he looks like he can be a good closer. I wonder if something like a Beltre and Putz for Manny deal would be realistic to off set money and provide Boston with a 3B and Closer option.
In that scenerio it would eliminate the need for SF.

For the career so far, yes, certainly, but there is no evidence based on Putz' single season as a closer that K-Rod is better. At least none provided.
