Free Agency? Weird. « 38 Pitches
Quote:
I'm disappointed myself that Seattle isn't on the list, but I understand doubts from afar that the 88 wins were a temporary bump. Though I think that Curt should talk to Miguel Batista about the community and what effect Mr.Schilling could have teaching young Felix, Morrow and others.

I agree about Seattle possibly being a good fit for Schilling. The Mariners have a decent core that could compete for the AL West title, depending upon what the Angels do during the off-season.
It would be interesting to see Schilling reunited with Pedro Martinez in New York, or with Randy Johnson in Arizona. Schilling was rumored to be on bad terms with both pitchers, although he continues to deny that he had issues with them. (The silence from Martinez and Johnson on that question is deafening.) The Detroit Tigers, with the acqusition of Edgar Renteria, and healthy years out of Gary Sheffield and the young bullpen arms could be a force in the AL Central. Adding Schilling to the mix would arguably give Detroit the best rotation in baseball. The Tigers would be fools not to call him. I'd say that Schilling's best chance at feeling comfortable and boosting his Hall of Fame credentials would be to remain with the Red Sox or return to the Phillies. As a Red Sox fan, I'm not entirely sure that I want him back. I like the guy a lot, I appreciate everything that he brought to the team, but I'm just not confident that he can get by without a fastball. Guile can only take you so far and Schilling isn't in the best of physical shape either. It's tough to let a player go who meant so much to the franchise and literally bled for it; I just think the Red Sox might be able to budget that money more wisely. I'm hoping that Boston retains Lowell AND signs Alex Rodriguez. |

Didn't Randy go 10-1 with like .1 ERA?
