Default Most devastating loss in your teams history

Last week, McCarver went into what he thought the Phillies franchise most devastating loss was. 1977 NLCS - Game 3. That was pretty bad. The series was tied 1-1, the Phils had a 5-3 lead with LA up in the top of the 9th with 2 out - nobody on. They pushed 3 runs across with 4 hits, and one very questionable call that would have ended the game. LA won the game and the series.

For my Mets, I think 1988 NLCS - Game 4 has to rate pretty high - Mike Scioscia's 2-run HR in the 9th to tie the game, LA won in extra inn. to snatch the 3-1 series lead away from NY and the Mets lost in 7.

The Red Sox might need their own thread.

Thanks for reminding me.

In my lifetime (born 1982), I'd have to say Game 6 of the 1986 World Series followed by Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.

Game 6 of the '86 World Series is probably the toughest loss in franchise history as well. One strike away from a World Series Championship...how can it get worse than that?

1982 World Series Game 6.

We had momentum going up 3-2 on em after being down 2-1, and then ugh.....painful. and I wasn't even alive for it...the replays are devastating.

The only World Series game I've seen in person. Although Game 6 in 1991 really broke my heart, followed closely by the game the next night.

Oswalt's meltdown in game 3 in the 2005 WS was a big disappointment, but I'd have to go with the game 6 in tle NLCS in 1986. Astros up in the 9th over the Mutts when the strikezone shrinks to nothing and the Mets winning in the 14th. An Astro win would have put Cy Young winner Mike Scott on the mound for game 7. For an Astro fan this is the ultimate conspiracy game. Bob Knepper got shafted and I hate Lenny Dykstra to this day.

Ouch. My worst Wohlers moment was him throwing 2 to the backstop while trying to intentionally walk a guy vs. the Cubs in AFC Stadium. As for my lone WS game, most Braves Boards denizens know the story from Game 2 of the '99 WS. Not the game, mind you, just suffering through Yankee fans and a standing ovation for Pete Rose.

On the plus side, I had suh-WEET seats for the rest of the All-Century Team presentation. Hell, I could have spit on Selig from there.

I'm still hoping a Pirate fan chimes in. I remember both 1972 and 1992 and they were both nightmares. To let 2 separate 9th inning leads in pennant deciding games slip thru your fingers. OUCH!

Yeah, I was carrying the scoring placard in a Celebrity Tour golf event back in 2000, and Andy van Slyke was in my foursome. I resisted the temptation to ask him where he was "when Sid slid."

Seattle and New York Game 2 of the 2000 ALCS, Seattle was up in the series 1-0 and also Seattle was up 1-0 in the top of the bottom of the 8th, the yankees scored like 7 runs with off Jose Mesa and Aruthur Rhodes. That whole series was just wanted to make me scream as a Mariners fan. Then in Game 6 Aruthur Rhodes blows it agian.
Guess what the same thing happen in 2001, thank you Aruthur Rhodes

Why didn't you?

Another Game 6 note...May God forgive, but I did not shed a tear when Kirby Puckett died.

Ah, I never begrudged Puckett for that great catch and subsequent HR in Game 6. Maybe because he did it with some class, as opposed to the perceived ass-iosity of Leyritz in '96.

Anyway, to answer your question, it was called "Security." plus, I might have hit Teddy in the process, and that ain't happenin'! Besides, I was too busy thinking about beaning Rose with a bronzed Pik Six ticket.

Hitting Ted Williams would not have been cool. However, a magic loogie bouncing off his son and onto Selig would have been great.

LOL -- Sorry, I meant Mr. Ted Turner. Teddy Ballgame was on the All-Century Team dais at the time.
