Who are we?

Our careers overlapped by a couple of years. Our last names were pronounced exactly the same, but spelled differently.. Our first initials were the same, but our last name initlals were different. There are four different teams that we both played for, but never as teammates. Who are we?

It's been two weeks, so I'll give the answer before I forget who they were myself.

Darold Knowles and Dickie Noles.
