Default Who Am I? (Pt. XVII)

I played in the majors from 1993-1997, didn't play in the majors or minors from 1998-2001, and then have played again in the majors from 2002-2008.

If you need more hints, let me know.

Still drawing a blank on this. I went through 1994 rosters looking for a player who is still active, and no luck.

Hint I: He was involved in a famous last game of the season, in a very dubious way.

Hint II: An also-ran in his 20s, he turned into one of the steadier players at his position for a few years in his 30s.

Salomon Torres. Announcers mentioned it on the ESPN game Monday night.

Nice job! What an odd career pattern he's had. I wish Dusty had used Bill Swift in that final game of '93 instead of the rookie. Torres came into the game with the same number of walks as strikeouts. Swift had pitched three days earlier, and he had given up just 2 runs in his last 32 innings, including a 3-1, 7 IP, win over the Dodgers to begin that series. He could've gone 4 or 5 innings.

Maybe that game would've been academic if the Giants hadn't batted Bonds at 5th in the order for 120 games that season. In '94, they batted him 5th 30% of the time, which is still too much, but not quite as bad. When you put your best batter and baserunner at #5 in the order, you don't deserve to win anything.

Default Even Better---Trivia

During my career as a MLB pitcher, my W-L record in even-numbered years was .643. But in odd-numbered years, my W-L pct. was .472. I even started two post-season games in those odd-numbered years. Who am I?
