Default O's outlook for the last month

Well... as expected by most... our O's are 18 games under .500 as of today... 24 games to go... let us assume it is safe to say that this team is not approaching .500 for the season

The positives...
Bedard can hopefully finish strong... if he wins out and does not take a hit in his K's and ERA, he has a dark horse chance at Cy Young... he has been the best in BAA among all the major contenders, and that shows how dominant he really has been...
Roberts has a real shot at a .300 BA, a .390+ OB%, and 50 steals... I am so glad we had him win out in the 2B wars a few seasons back.... I called that one right...
Markakis has a legit shot at .300 and 20/20. Great season kid, we knew you had it in you....

The Negatives...
Guthrie has continued, and probably will continue his slide back down to normalcy.... It was a great surge and story at the beginning of the year when we needed good stories, but reality has set in
What the hell are we still doing with Corey 'I cannot have an OB% over .300' Patterson??? Yes he can be a fine base stealer, but the guy is just murder in this lineup.
Very poor progression in Daniel Cabrera... it may be time to trade him or cut him loose
The next off season best not be centered on more mediocre middle relief signings. The pen has been a disappointment and will probably continue that over the last 24 games

My outlook.. we finish 20 games under .500 at 71-91... just slightly worse than I thought we would

Well... with the injuries and everything else... looks like we will be even worse than I expected, bringing to the end a season that is pretty much best forgotten.... we have had our bright spots, though very few in comparison to the bad news and bad decisions (Corey 'Mr. I can't get a .300 ob%' Patterson, signing MR's as a primary strategy in the off season, and thinking that relying on Trachsel and Millar this season were GOOD ideas, just to name a few)...

Here is hoping that we learn from these mistakes this off season and get to addressing out farm, and our ML squad needs with youth and promise rather than age and desperation

As it turns out Dave you were pretty close.
In the beginning I thought the O,s would
be much better.Injurys & bad pen sounded
the death toll for the O,s this year.

I truely believe that Mcphail & Trembley
will have a better team next yr.

I think it was 2 games worse because of the loss of Bedard at the end....

I think they COULD have a better year next year. The core of 3 or 4 main players is very solid... but things have to happen....

1) Form the pen from within the system. DO not pay for mediocre, overhyped, expensive, retreads
2) Use FA to go after top talent at our weak positions... we know what we need but we rarely address it... STARTING PITCHING UNDER 30 that does not throw 100+ walks a year and a true power hitting corner outfielder that can fill the 4 hole better in the lineup
3) Stop playing chumps with a .300 OB% on a regular basis (Patterson, Payton)
4) Trade Tejada for youth that is improving
