Default Orioles look for big bat at next week's winter meetings

How many times have we hear this before???

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns

"We had a lot of different feelers going out, Flanagan said. "It's not like he wasn't there and we didn't have any other plans. Before free agency, we had made a lot of contact with agents and ballclubs and really felt we got ahead of the market on touching base with all levels of free agents and most ballclubs. We really didn't miss a beat at all."

Jay Payton, Cliff Floyd and Luis Gonzalez rank among the free agents who have been under consideration by the Orioles.

Boy.... with those names, color me UNIMPRESSED!!!..... I know that we are not the most attractive target for big name free agents, but at least try for, and say that we are trying for the big boys.

those are not big bats...what would the Orioles be willing to give for Richie Sexson?

OPS+ of 140 and 120 not good enough for you? His past two seasons have been better than everyone but Tejada.

I actually agree with Flanagan when he says he feels like they've accomplished a lot thus far, because in a 2 week span we entirely overhauled our bullpen, brought in a serviceable back-up catcher, and re-signed Kevin Millar.

I wouldn't mind acquiring Mark Mulder in a trade, but I'd much rather see a trade go down for, say, Manny Ramirez or another big bat. Hopefully we'll either trade for a big bat and leave our rotation alone, or trade for Mulder and sign Cliff Floyd.

I've always liked Floyd, and every year I think he's going to go .280/40/100, but I'm usually wrong. Hopefully if we get him, this will be the year I'm not.

Red Sox are going to ruin their own chances if they trade Manny. Yankees are good, but old and injury prone. Blue Jays are fine, but I don't think they're as good as people think.
