Why not keep making changes, this team hasn't won in a while. Some people believe the only way for the Orioles to get rid of the owner Peter Angelos.

Ummm, Angelos isn't the GM. In fact the Orioles have dual GMs, though who knows how that's going to work with the addition of McPhail above them, but below the owner.

A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement. |

Well, to me lil' Andy has proven unworthy of that "complete" control by virtue of his having gone after Joe Girardi even before the dust settled upon his new desk in the warehouse.
On the surface, it was a stupid, malconsidered, rushed gesture which Angelos was apparently willing to allow. Thank goodness an even higher power than Angelos intervened and prevented it. Hmmmm..... ya know.... maybe that's it! Maybe lil' Andy had got together with Joe G. beforehand and staged the whole process just to test Angelos.... I mean when you think about it, it really would have been a stupid move given MacPhail's track record and baseball insight.... almost too stupid to be real... and Girardi wasn't busy anyway, so he went along with it. Then, satisfied that Angelos really was a man of his word, MacPhail cued Joe G. to decline the offer (of which we never did get informed of the details) and lil'Andy proceeded to proclaim to then be on a more "methodical" path to ultimately making a better informed, more carefully considered choice worthy of the really insightful, experienced baseball exec which he is. Of course, we, the onlooking fans, are expected to believe that MacPhail must have completely lost his senses, and then suddenly gained them back, all within a matter of a couple of days. Hmmm..... no way. I'm convinced. The whole thing was a rouse..... and I sure feel better now. Last edited by feathered friend; June 24th, 2007 at 09:44 AM. |
