The beginning of this season is a disaster, two regulars hurt already
plus a starter out for the year.Losing three in a row to the twinkies & looking terrible in the process. I think its too early to panic but I,m concerned that Payton & Ramon Hernandez will be out too long.We cant afford it because is terribly thin at this point. The two standouts so far is the bullpen & Aurbrey Huff.It dont look to good to be 0-3 & in last place without a win & going to Yankee Stadium. |

Hernandez's loss is of concern.... but as stated SO mny times.... except for the career year AT Coors Field, Payton has been a career long chump.... so if we have anyone they want to see from the minors, that is indeed a better option....
Huff has looked good, but I expect Roberts and the rest of the upper lineup to start up pretty soon.... It may not look good to be 0-3..... and Yankee Stadium holds the dreaded Yankees... but I and not completely frightened to go into Yankee Stadium early in the season... we could very well pull out our first win there, and maybe even our second...

Well, Perlozzo lost the game yesterday by leaving Baez in to face Giambi after he had walked a batter and hit another. He had Jamie Walker warming..... who could have been very tough on Giambi......but instead he let Baez face him (righty against lefty) and then brought in Walker to face the next batter after the damage was done..... backwards.
Without that mental error, the Yanks would have been 4 runs behind in the bottom of the ninth, so even A-Rod's slam would still not have won it. Still, I think Giambi's blast is what changed the whole complexion of the game. Then, when it was clear that Ray didn't have it in the bottom of the ninth (his first two outs were hard-hit), Sam just left him in to give it all up. Just not very good managing. |

That is not Perlozzo's decision.... he will advise, but that final call is not his
With Baez... it is what the O's picked him up for... it is not just lefty .vs righty.... you have to let him show his stuff for future decisions.... As for Ray... he did not have it, but what 'cha gonna do... even the best closers don't have it on certain nights... besides that the Yankees are one dangerous lineup at any time during a game

Well... good to see us not falter to the Yanks... and pull out a couple as I hoped we would... in the early season, IMHO, you have more tossups.... especially when facing pitchers such as Mussina who is not a cold weather pitcher, especially in his older age

What are you talking about, Dave ?
Of course it was Perlozzo's decision. He's the manager. He should have brought in Walker to face Giambi.... not Baez.... period. As for "it's what we got Baez for", what.... ? To give up 3-run homers to left-handed batters? I'd say to reduce the odds of that happening is what we got Walker for. Not to come in after the damage is already done. And no, the issue is not always righty-lefty...... but it was a real big part of it this time. I'm not saying Sam's a bad manager..... however, in this case, he made a dumb choice and the Orioles lost because of it. |
