Default O's sign Trachsel

Per the Baltimore Sun / Rotoworld

Quote:
Steve Trachsel and the Orioles have agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.1 million contract with a $4.75 million option for 2008, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

That didn't take long. Trachsel will replace Kris Benson in the rotation, putting Jeremy Guthrie back in the bullpen mix and making it likely that Hayden Penn and Garrett Olson will open the season in Triple-A. It's unlikely that he'll have any fantasy value
Good deal, IMO for you guys

I was hoping the Braves would take a look @ him for their 5th starter opening

To me... this just delays the opportunities for the youngsters.... it is not like the O's are in contention for the playoffs, so spending for a aging mediocre veteran is not a step towards that....

I disagree, I think we have the talent to compete this year. Whether we actually do or not, I don't know, but I think we definitely have the talent.

IMHO we have the talent to compete for being possibly 3rd best in teh division.. certainly not the talent to compete with BOS and NYY for the top of the division, and I do not believe we have the talent to compete for the wildcard...

This signing was/is a waste. I would rather see Penn get his reps and learn from the major league pitching coaching that he could experience, than going back to AAA. I also do not believe that him going into the pen (no pun intended) is really going to help him or the club....

I still contened that aging vets are not what this team needs...
