Default Huff and O's near deal

FOX Sports - MLB - Huff, Orioles close to three-year deal

The Orioles, thwarted in earlier attempts to add a top slugger, are close to signing free agent Aubrey Huff to a three-year contract worth at least $18 million, FOXSports.com has learned.

It seems official, analyzed here...
I believe this means that they won't be looking at trading Brian Roberts for Laroche anymore.
Huff combined for a 106 OPS+ last year and has hig over 20 home runs in each of the last five seasons. He will give the Orioles many options because of his right handed bat and his ability to play 4 different positions along with DHing.

FINALLY... some good news for this off season... a guy who can hit, and play multiple positions... not some 30+ year old MR

I was hoping we would land this guy... this is actually something much needed on this team

Probably....

IMHO,
Benson, and Wright are filler material at best.. and much work has yet to be done on Bedard, Cabrerra, and Loewen.... rotation is shaky

As for the lineup... I think there is some hope... but not great hope... in reference to your propesed lineup.... I think Mora's days as a #2 hitter are long behind him... he should be a botton of the order guy now... with Markakis should be our #2 guy, for Huff can't run to save his life... Gibbons has worn out his welcome with me, Payton should be a bench guy but we may be forced to play him regularly because of our short-comings (He's NEVER done anything outside of Colorado)

Our pen may be improved... but for how long??... we signed some guys rather long in the tooth.... IMHO Penn should head for the rotation at some time, but he needs experience... though I think right now he might be a better option than Benson or Wright

It is a done deal now... I think his addition is an important one... not one that will put us into playoff contention... but makes us a bit more respectable
